locking gas cap

I need to find a locking gas cap. After spending almost $4 per gallon I am not about to have someone come along and steal my gas. I called my dealer and asked for a locking cap. I was told (over the phone) they had one in stock. After I got there - and stood around for 10 minutes or so... the parts man brings out a regular gas cap. I said NO I want a locking cap. He indicated that LR didn't have one, never had one... that I was misinformed. Okay so I go fumming out of there...

There has to be some after market cap that works. Anyone have any recommendations.

when they said they had a locking one, they probably thought the push-in lock ones, ie child proof locking, which are standard. Never heard or seen one either, you could always have one made or even find a different brand that has one. size of the hole and thread ratio has to be a pretty common design between auto makers.

I was pretty upset at the dealers because I repeated my request several times and they still assured me they had a LOCKING cap. I have tried several auto places - online and walkin - and NONE have anything specifically for a LR - it is going to be a matter of buying one and hoping that it fits. I have heard that ones by STANT can work

Where do you live that gas is so CHEAP!

San Francisco petrol is $4.20 on the low end, $4.79 on the high end and averaging about $4.50!
(And I say that not out of cockiness but out of complete EMBARRESMENT!)

Even my Mini Cooper's little tank cost $65 to fill up now! :(

Still under $4 across the river(s)...I find this site entertaining if you want to look at what gas prices are around the country.

I have looked at several distributors - as soon as you plug in RRS they say nothing exists. I am sure that at least one of the STANT models will fit but none specifically say that they will. I guess it is a matter of making sure the diameter is the same... and hopefully the patterns fit.

By the way... gas here in Georgia is $3.89 per gallon for 93

I find it funny that I have four refineries within thirty minutes of my house and some guy 1000 miles away in WY pays less? No price fixing? Even worse is the most expensive gas in town is the station next to BP refinery.....I guess they know the guys working there get paid well.

Hey maybe BP thinks people will pay more for freshly brewed, locally sourced, free-range gasoline? After all, while the rest of the country was perfectly happy a cup of $0.99 Folgers robusta, didn't you guys in the Pac NW decide that coffee must be sorted by terroir's and cost $4 a cup? Sorry Umberto :D

But seriously, your high prices in WA come from state taxes...http://www.api.org/policy/tax/stateexci ... _notes.pdf

I know its hard to believe, but many refineries are losing money making gasoline currently.

I know this is general chatter stuff but I can't help myself. True, state taxes do play a large role in our gas prices here. And yes, I do spend too much on my Triple Tall Vanilla Latte @ 140. I still find a little displeasure in the information told to us by our state leaders that nothing fishy is going on. NPR reported that Exxon Mobile makes millions a second. A oil rep came on NPR in a latter show stated something similar to your comment that they are not making money on the gas but the products within the store, IE sandwiches gum. I find this hard to believe. That would be a lot of sandwiches.
