Introduction
Air suspension parts Range Rovers are hard to find at reasonable
prices. Also, RR owners are always looking for some solution to
bypassing the air suspension sustem when it breaks down.
I recently stumbled across a
company in Australia that deals in all manner of inexpensive air
suspension components (including emergency bypass kits) for a variety
of vehicles including Range Rovers. For example, they deal directly
with Dunlop, makers of the original Range Rover air suspension system,
and stock all the parts we RR owners need including spring bellows and
compressors at amaxingly low prices. Even if you do not lie in
Australia, you will still come out well ahead by having them ship your
order to you.
Normally we do not devote pages to specific companies or suppliers on
Rangerovers.net. However we are making an exceptionn in this case due
to the unique opportunity that Airbag Man's products present to fellow
Range Rover Owners. This page is certainly not intended to coerce
readers into purchasing from this source without checking others -- for
information and price comparisons with other suppliers of the same
parts, please refer to our general air suspension parts sources
listings. If you do decide to purchase from Airbag Man, please make
sure you mention Rangerovers.net as they have kindly agreed to help
support this website based on the inquiries they receive.
Below
are listed the main components they supply that are specifically
relevant to Range Rover owners.
Air Springs and Bellows
Airbag
Man
supply air bellows worldwide for front (their
part # AB0001) and rear (their part # AB0002) of all Range Rover
models,
with their own specially made versions produced by Dunlop (same factory
as
original units) thus providing the assurance of performance at least as
good as
original units (they state the Arnott's units appear to be quite short
once
aged). Their export price is A$110 - about
US$80.
(Prices for Australian customers are significantly higher due to having
to include local import duty and sales taxes). See photo
at top of this page for illustration of
these units.
Airbag
Man's rear bellows are longer than the
factory units as the originals start to leak and fall off once aged;
this also allows a
small suspension
lift as has been carried out by Hardy Neale of Australia recently --
see the Hardy
Neale Air Suspension Lift Page.
They
can also supply the upper and lower plastic spring ends or complete
spring assemblies.
Compressors
& Rebuild Kits
The
genuine compressor is still expensive at
the time of writing
(November 2003) and costs about $440 at the dealer. Atlantic British
has them for $389.95. The lowest price I
have seen for new ones lately is $375 (with free shipping) at
SpeedyCarParts.com.
More recently, I found that Airbag
Man in
Brisbane, Australia, sells them for A$400 or US$300 and ships
inexpensively worldwide. (Prices to Australian customers are
considerably higher due to local mport duty and sales taxes).
I
also recently discovered that Airbag
Man
sells a complete Thomas compressor
service kit that includes new sleeve
and piston/conrod assy (see photo), sells for A$200.00
or about US$150 to worldwide customers. (Prices for Australian
customers may be higher due to local import duty and sales taxes). (Photo: Genuine Thomas rebuild kit from Airbag
Man)
Emergency Kits
A very inexpensive
emergency air
suspension bypass kit is
available from Airbag
Man, an Australian manufacturer who ship worldwide. Their Range Rover Safety/Emergency "E" Kit
(part number DRK001, A$200 or about US$150)
enables each air spring to be inflated remotely
and independently. The system locks out the air supply from the valve
block and allows you to add air from any source such as a service
station pump or another vehicle with an onboard air supply. You can
also isolate a leaking spring so it won't cause all the others to
deflate. The kit comes complete with 4 lockout valves, 4 remote
inflation valves, tubing, tube cutter and full instructions. (Picture at right: one of the lockout and
inflation valve combinations included in the kit)
