No stress shupack... ;) It wasnt meant as a SHOUT just as a "making it clear"hehehe!

The comments the people made seemed to confuse things, and I just wanted to make sure no one got the impression that

1) the links would give them the upgraded look
or
2) that fitting xenon to the standard p38a required a manual, and problems with getting highbeam, etc, etc...

not without some serious adaptation. NOT a bolt in conversion.

Jeeez. This is wacky. A non-emotional topic like a headlight conversion unleashes more anger than all the rest of the threads in this forum including the one where the golden guy, after overheating his car repeatedly and destroying his engine, tells us all our beloved (why else would we be here?) cars are so-and-so-much crud. That was where I expected flames, etc, but everyone behaved quite well. Nice.

ITMA, duuuuude, take a valium, have a beer, and sit back and watch a cooking show on the tube. You're gonna have a coronary :(

fat96range, did you sort out your bi-xenon problem? I have some details in the thread about how I fixed mine...

it is working 100 percent like the 4.4 except I dont have headlight levelling (my truck never had that...)

Great work f96 !!

Any chance of some close up pics and pics from the rear of lights to get an idea on how these were mounted ?

What body work is required ?

Like the grille too !!

Thanks

Roy --

Thanks for the reminder about your conversion. I am sorry that I could never get your pictures to work on my computer, not sure if I am doing anything wrong!

If you can get them to display, or send some to me, I would ebe very glad to add your good input to the page on this topic. Also if you have any more information on how you achieved the conversion it would be really helpful for a lot of people!!

Cheers

They seem to work for other people (?!)

can you try a trace to my server?

I'm emailing them to you anyways so you can post them if you wish.

Cheers!

Don't do it!!

Postby kassirie » Tue May 24, 2005 3:10 pm

Have you wondered how come no one posts instructions as to how to convert the P38 headlights to the MK 111?
Well, the headlight just don't fit no matter what the modification, unless you are willing to cut into your fender, headlight frame and bumper and even then, it is not a surety. The turn lamp don't not blend where it overlaps with the fender... there is a gap. The headlamp has to sit on the bumper for the hood to close down enough and when it does, the contour of the fender to to lamp is out of whack.
I started doing mine with the help of a body shop and it was so bad, I had to stop before it got too far (but not beore they had done enough cutting into the metal rails of the headlamp housing and the plastic in the rear of the headlamp itself. All this trouble without having to worry about the electrical yet! The end result is so disgusting that those who have done it are so dismayed with what they see that they don't want to be bothered to talk about it!
Don't ruin a perfectly fine car with one that will look as if it is taped up.
A word for the wise is quite sufficient!

1 post, bashing?

The only cutting in my case was a non-support section of metal, that was basically a vertical stop for the old lights. These lights are deeper and need that cut.

My LIGHTS were altered and then reclosed, like I have previously mentioned...

The turnlights have a very slight discrepancy... if you would like close up pics I can supply them for everyone, but dont be stupid to hear this guy out - why does everyone who did it say it looks kick-ass?

coming soon close-up pics...

Oh. and electrically it is perfect... xenon working, bi-xenon working, everything working fine, no faults... like I have stated 10 times my truck didnt have headlight levelling so this one is disabled...

I tried posting as many details as I could but it was done by an extremely talented body guy that I know and I prefered to let him work and he did it in his shop...

The lights dont rest on the bumper - at all - there is even a gap between the bumper and the lights.

I'm sorry if your body shop wasnt willing to go the extra mile, but come down to see my truck and oh well you'll be jealous :p

Good look

Postby noavgdrvr1 » Wed May 25, 2005 4:58 am

Great job,

The car really looks great....

I have a feeling that some manufacture is working on an aftermarket headlight upgrade, which would be a direct fit. May be it will cost a little less than the factory lights as well.

But, until then You RULE.

I must say, they look good from a-far, but the are far from good!
What I mean by this is up close nothing flowes. The lights do not match up to anything else nor does the grill. I give an A for effort and a D for looks and ease
