"Slow Down" message

Hi all,

Picked up my car yesterday evening after it was fixed due to an issue with the starter and on my way back home everything seemed fine until I stopped over at Walgreens to pick up a prescription so on returning to the car to head home, I started the car and shifted to reverse then noticed while backing out of the parking spot the message" Slow Down" which stayed on for a few seconds even after I shifted to drive. Any thoughts?

It may have thought the suspension was in off road mode, mine does that if parked at a funny angle on the drive sometimes. Don't worry about it.

If you have the same model as me then try the following

Will low box select?

Have you checked the fuse has not been left in socket 37? If it is there pull it out. Normal service will resume.

It seems real odd but thats the way it has been designed and actually features in the owners manual but who ever reads them!

If its not supposed to be there who would have put it there?

Thanks for the quick and reassuring response. It happened again this morning when I was backing out of my driveway so I thought to myself, maybe the darn smart vehicle is tell me to actually slow down with my reversing speed.

Thanks for your response. I didn't try the low box select and will check the car later to see if fuse 37 is in place. Talking of owner's manual, I think I only consult those things when something like this happens.

Well that's not going to break any speed records! I'm sure I've reversed faster than that.

Well the situation got worse 3 hours ago. I left my office to head to a lunch meeting and when I started the car to head out of my parking spot in the office, the slow down message same on again even though I wasn't reversing this time. It also stay on longer. Then I noticed that the indicator light that shows the different terrain modes whas on the highway side. Now I'm at least about half a mile from my office. Next came some strange messages on the dash like "Air Susp. Inactive", "Trans, Fail Safe Prog" then the car went dead. I was able to let it coast to the side of the road after which I called the repair shop and had it towed back to them.

MY03 4.4 V8. I just got off the phone with the independent and he said it was a grounding issue. He specifically said the grounding cable in the Engine ECU was somehow disconnected inside the ECU itself so he had to create a new ground for the ECU. Supposedly the car runs fine now and I can pick it up. I instructed him to investigate the cost of a rebuild or replacement ECU so I can have an idea of what it would cost and if it is cost effective to to rebuild or replace.

I didn't try the low box select but after I got the car back, I checked the fuse box and as you rightly indicated, I found an odd looking fuse in socket 37 so I removed it. I took the car on a brief run around the block and no "slow down" message so I'm hoping the issues have finally been resolved.

Random error messages often means a failing battery. Have you checked the voltages? Even with the engine running it seems if the battery is on its way out some of the systems will behave strangely.

There is an electrical sticky at the top of the thread, give it a read and go from there.

I installed a brand new battery into it on 11/16/09.
